Italian Mauro Sitvoli managed to defeat the Swede in a tense final Jonas Danielson and won the world title in heads-up poker. Triumphant of the championship held in Barcelona received 65,000 euros. Runner-up Danielson was comforted by 35,000 euros.
In the semifinals, Stivoli defeated Frenchman Nicolas Dervaux. Dervaux received a prize of 10,000 euros. In another semifinal, Danielson knocked out Italian Ricardo Bozecevich, who received 15,000 euros for his efforts.
A total of 59 people took part in the heads-up championship this time. More than 100 people played last year, so we had to organize one extra round of the game. One can only guess about the reasons for such a sharp drop in interest in the game one-on-one. Some say this is due to the inability to qualify for the tournament through online satellites. Others argue that the lack of televised coverage of the tournament reduces the attractiveness of the tournament for players, and therefore there are no big poker names in the tournament.
Perhaps this decline in the number of players is due to the fact that heads-up games are already out of fashion in the poker world. Many players today are reluctant to play pure heads-up tournaments, preferring to play at full tables.
In the previous tournaments one could note the low quality of the dealers' work. In this championship, we managed to cope with the problem. After all, the organization of the tournament in Barcelona was taken over by Thomas Kremser, and thanks to the experience of his team, the standards of service for the players were at the highest level.
