The annual poker congress will take place this year on October 29 - 30 in the capital of Hungary, Budapest. The conference is organized by Dawn kirkwood, Director of Events for Clarion Gaming. The congress will be devoted to the pressing issues of the world of poker online and live, and it will be one of the largest in history.
Poker News Daily: What is World Poker Congress?
Kirkwood: The goal of the congress is to bring together representatives of the live and online poker industry to come together to understand the differences and similarities between the two. Our conference should facilitate dialogue. We feel that for poker to be recognized as a global sport, both sectors need to get to know each other as closely as possible. In the long term, this will boost the industry's growth.
PND: What can participants expect from an event in Hungary?
Kirkwood:World Poker Congress delegates will take with them innovative ideas and new contacts with senior representatives from both land-based and online poker companies.
PND: How many congress attendees are expected this year?
Kirkwood: The WPC is a meeting in a narrow circle of people who make decisions in the industry and represent poker companies from all over the world. We usually host 130 to 150 people at the congress, who represent about 80 companies.
PND: Steve Lipscomb, Founder and CEO of the World Poker Tour, will be the keynote speaker. Why did you choose him?
Kirkwood: Steve has spoken at each of the past two congresses because he is very wise in the poker business and a talented speaker. As the founder of the World Poker Tour, he will talk about the future for the poker business. This year he will play alongside the head of the poker division of bwin Hendrick knopp... So the keynote speakers will keep the balance between online and live poker.
PND: Tell us about the choice of the venue for the congress. Why Hungary?
Kirkwood: Each year the congress is held in a new location. We started in 2006 in Stockholm, then in 2007 we moved to Malta, and this year we chose Budapest. The key factors in the decision were the country's location in central Europe, the growing number of affiliates, and the fact that the city will host the famous Poker Tour these days in October.
