Dublin won the 2008 European Capital of Poker title

Poker Edition Bluff Europe named the honorary title holder Poker Capital of Europe 2008, this honorary title received Dublin - the capital Ireland... The new poker capital was able to bypass such European cities as London, Vein, Amsterdam and Barcelona.

Dublin earned this title thanks to its excellent selection of poker rooms and a large number of live tournaments. Poker in Dublin and throughout Ireland finds support from various public associations and poker pub leagues. The oldest poker tournament in Europe Irish Open Tournament takes place in Dublin.

Last year Dublin came in second behind London. But this year Dublin has become the city that has made the greatest impression on the experts from Bluff Europe.

“Last year we chose London in large part because of hosting the first European World Series of Poker and the burgeoning local poker scene. This has generated a lot of ridicule from the side of the Irish Sea where they rightly defended their fantastic poker city,” says Philip Conneller, editor in a press release from Bluff Europe magazine "However, there was really only one candidate this year."

Liam flood, an ardent supporter of Irish poker who brought Hold'em to the "Emerald Isle" back in the seventies, was delighted with the news. When asked to describe what he feels special about poker in Dublin, he replied: "It's a spirit of community. And as it turns out, having a few drinks after the game is great for relaxing."
