Walter "Puggy" Pearson died

Poker legend 77-year-old dies this week Walter "Puggy" Pearson... One of seven invited players to compete in the first World Series of Poker. In 1973 he became the WSOP champion.

It was Walter "Puggy" Pearson who invented the freezeout structure for tournaments, which has been in use since 1972 to this day.

Walter Pearson was born in 1929 in Tennessee. In 1987, his name was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.
